• Vigorous deciduous (sometimes semi-evergreen) shrub with gracefully arching branches.
• Profuse pure-white flower clusters in early summer (May–July) that cover the stems like a bridal wreath.
• Attractive diamond-shaped dark green leaves (blue-green beneath); occasional purple autumn tints.
• Fully hardy, low-maintenance, tolerant of pollution, drought once established, and suitable for hedging, screens, borders or as a specimen. Holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Key planting points

• When: From late autumn to early spring.
• Where: Full sun for best flowering (tolerates partial shade); any aspect; exposed or sheltered sites.
• Soil: Moist but well-drained; tolerates clay, sand, loam; acid, neutral or alkaline. Improve heavy clay with compost/grit for drainage.
• How: Dig a hole wide enough for the root spread; plant at the same depth as in the nursery; water well and mulch. Space 50 cm–1 m apart for hedging (≈2 plants/m) or 1–1.5 m for specimens. 
• Aftercare: Water regularly in the first year; once established needs little watering. Prune after flowering by removing flowered stems and thinning older wood. Generally pest- and disease-free.
