• Large, spreading deciduous tree (typically 15–20 m+ tall) with elegant, fine-textured pinnate foliage that casts light, dappled shade.
• Thornless (safer for gardens and public spaces), glossy green leaves turning bright yellow in autumn.
• Fast-growing, highly adaptable, and tough: tolerates a wide range of soils (including clay, chalk, alkaline), urban pollution, drought (once established), heat, and some salt. Fully hardy in the UK. 
• Low-maintenance specimen tree; good for lawns, parks, or larger gardens where filtered shade is wanted underneath.

Planting advice

• Timing: November to March (dormant season). Best in milder weather; avoid frozen or waterlogged ground.
• Site: Full sun; any well-drained soil (moist but free-draining preferred). Allow space for mature size (spread often 8 m+).
• On arrival: Keep roots moist. Plant promptly or heel in temporarily. 
• Planting steps:
  • Dig a hole no deeper than the roots but 2–3 times wider; loosen sides if compacted.
  • Position so the root collar / soil mark sits at or slightly above ground level (never plant too deep). Spread roots out.
  • Backfill with excavated soil (mix in some compost if poor); firm gently.
  • Water thoroughly to settle soil.
  • Stake if needed (especially in exposed sites) and use a rabbit/deer guard.
  • Mulch 5–8 cm deep around the base (keep clear of the trunk).
• Aftercare: Water regularly in the first 1–2 growing seasons during dry spells. Keep the base weed-free. Minimal pruning required (remove dead/damaged wood.

Once established it is resilient and largely trouble-free.
