Shrubby Cinquefoil 'Goldfinger' (potentilla fruticosa 'Goldfinger')

• Compact, bushy deciduous shrub (typically 1–1.2 m tall × 0.5–1 m spread) with bright golden-yellow flowers (up to 4 cm) from late spring/early summer into early autumn.
• Extremely hardy, low-maintenance, drought-tolerant once established, and thrives in exposed, coastal or polluted sites. Attracts pollinators and suits borders, informal hedging, gravel or wildlife gardens.

Planting advice

• Plant while dormant, November–March, when the ground is workable (not frozen or waterlogged).
  
• Choose full sun (best flowering) or partial shade; well-drained soil of almost any type (chalk, loam, sand; tolerates most pH). Avoid waterlogging.
• Dig a hole twice the width of the roots and deep enough so the previous soil mark on the stems sits level with the surrounding ground.
• Spread roots out, backfill with original soil (optionally mixed with a little compost), firm gently, and water thoroughly.
• Space 50–60 cm apart for low hedging or 75–100 cm for individual plants/borders.
• Mulch around the base (keep clear of stems) and water regularly in the first growing season until established. Little ongoing care needed thereafter.
