Compact deciduous shrub (typically 0.5–1 m high and wide) with dark green (sometimes blue-green) pinnate foliage and pure white 3–4 cm flowers with yellow centres. Long flowering season from late spring into autumn;
RHS Award of Garden Merit; fully hardy, low-maintenance, drought-tolerant once established, and suitable for borders, low hedging, ground cover, coastal/exposed sites, and wildlife gardens.
- Plant while dormant from November to April when soil is workable (not frozen or waterlogged).
- On arrival, keep roots moist; Plant promptly.
- Site: full sun (best flowering) to partial shade; any reasonably well-drained soil (chalk, loam, sand; acid–alkaline). Avoid waterlogging.
- Dig a hole twice as wide as the roots and deep enough so the previous soil mark sits level with the surrounding ground. Spread roots naturally; loosen base of hole.
- Optional: mix a little well-rotted compost into poor soil (not essential). Backfill, firm gently to remove air pockets, and water thoroughly.
- Spacing: 75–100 cm for specimens; 45–60 cm for informal low hedging/ground cover.
