• Hardy small deciduous tree (typically 5–8 m) with elegant, cascading golden-yellow pea-like flowers in late spring to early summer.
• Well adapted to cooler, wetter UK conditions (especially northern and exposed sites); tolerates maritime exposure, poor soils, clay, chalk, pollution and cold better than common laburnum.
• Nitrogen-fixing, low-maintenance once established, and attractive as a specimen or for smaller gardens.

Key planting points

• Hardiness: Fully hardy throughout the UK
• Position: Full sun for best flowering; tolerates partial shade and exposed sites. Avoid frost pockets if late frosts are common.
• Soil: Any well-drained soil (sand, loam, clay or chalk); pH acid to alkaline. Dislikes waterlogging.
• When to plant: Bare-root trees November–March
• How to plant: Dig hole twice the width of the root, firm, water well and stake if needed in exposed spots. Clear grass/weeds from around the base.. 
• Aftercare: Water in the first 1–2 years during dry spells; little or no feeding required once established. Minimal pruning (remove dead/damaged wood in summer if needed).
• Warning: All parts (especially seeds/pods) are toxic if eaten – keep away from children, pets and livestock.
