• Attractive peeling bark (pinkish-orange to brown/cinnamon, becoming shaggy) for year-round interest.
• Fast-growing deciduous tree (typically to 12 m+ high and 4–8 m spread), with diamond-shaped green leaves turning golden-yellow in autumn.
• Tolerant of wet/moist soils and occasional waterlogging (excellent near ponds or in low-lying spots); more heat- and drought-tolerant once established than many other birches.
• Suitable for full sun or partial shade; relatively resilient to common birch pests.

Planting advice

• Plant only while dormant, from November to early March (avoid frozen or waterlogged ground). Plant as soon as possible after arrival. Keep roots moist at all times 
• Choose a site in sun or partial shade with moist but preferably well-drained soil (adaptable to clay, loam or sand; prefers slightly acidic conditions).
• Dig a hole no deeper than the root system but at least twice as wide. Spread roots out naturally.
• Position so the root collar (soil mark on the stem) is level with the surrounding soil surface – do not plant too deep.
• Backfill with the original soil (optionally mixed with some compost), firm gently to eliminate air pockets, and water thoroughly.
• Stake larger specimens if needed (short stake preferred) and consider a rabbit/deer guard. Apply a 5–8 cm mulch layer, keeping it clear of the trunk.
• Water regularly in the first 1–2 years (especially in dry spells); keep the base weed-free while establishing. Minimal pruning required once settled (best done late summer to mid-winter to avoid sap bleeding).
