Nordmann Fir (abies nordmanniana)

Planting and Care

• Site selection: Full sun to partial shade; sheltered position preferred for young trees; allow ample space as it can reach 20-30m+ tall and 5-8m wide canopy at maturity
• Soil requirements: Moist but well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral loam or clay; avoid chalky, shallow sandy, heavily alkaline, or waterlogged soils
• Best planting time: November to April (dormant season) for bare-root trees.
• Planting method: Dig hole twice root width, same depth as the tree was growing in the nursery; improve soil with organic matter if needed; mulch base (keep away from trunk) for moisture retention and weed suppression
• Ongoing care: Water deeply in first year and during dry spells; minimal pruning required; low maintenance once established
