Hazel (corylus avellana)

Planting Guide

• Best time: Bare-root November–March (dormant season); container-grown anytime, preferably autumn.
• Location: Full sun to partial shade; moist, well-drained soil (tolerates clay, loam, chalk).
• Preparation: Dig hole twice root width; add compost if soil is poor.
• Planting: Set at original depth (check soil mark on stem); firm in, water deeply, mulch base (keep clear of trunk).
• Aftercare: Water regularly first year in dry spells; minimal pruning needed.
