Vigorous multi-stemmed deciduous tree (typically 8–15 m tall) with large heart-shaped leaves (bronze when young, glossy green in summer, yellow in autumn) and clusters of pale pink/purplish-pink pea-like flowers on bare branches in early spring. Attractive, wildlife-friendly, and low-maintenance once established.

Planting summary (bare-root)

• Timing: Plant while dormant, November–March, when soil is workable (not frozen or waterlogged). Plant promptly on arrival; heel in temporarily if needed.
• Site: Full sun (or light partial shade), sheltered from strong winds and frost pockets; south- or west-facing preferred.
• Soil: Fertile, moist but well-drained loam, sand or chalk; any pH. Avoid waterlogging.
• Preparation: Dig a hole twice as wide as the root spread and no deeper than the roots. Loosen soil at the base/sides; optionally mix in organic matter. 
• Planting: Spread roots naturally. Set the root collar (soil mark) level with the surrounding soil surface—do not plant deeper. Backfill, firm gently to remove air pockets, and water thoroughly.
• Aftercare: Stake if exposed or taller specimens. Mulch (keep clear of the stem). Water regularly in the first 1–2 growing seasons during dry spells. Minimal pruning needed (remove dead/damaged wood in dry weather if required). Protect young plants from late frosts.
