Diel's Cotoneaster (cotoneaster dielsianus)

Graceful deciduous (or semi-evergreen) shrub with slender arching branches, growing to about 2.5–4 m tall and wide. Features dark green leaves that turn bright red in autumn, clusters of pink-tinged white summer flowers, and glossy scarlet berries that attract birds. Hardy, low-maintenance, and tolerant of a wide range of soils and conditions. 

Planting advice

• Timing: November to early March while dormant; avoid frozen or waterlogged ground. Plant as soon as possible after delivery.
• Site: Full sun preferred (tolerates partial shade); moderately fertile, well-drained soil of any type (chalk, clay, loam or sand) and pH (acid to alkaline).
• Preparation: Keep roots moist and never allow to dry out. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root spread but no deeper than the nursery soil mark on the stem. Optionally mix in some well-rotted compost. 
• Planting: Spread roots naturally in the hole; plant at the same depth as previously grown. Backfill, firm gently to remove air pockets, and water thoroughly.
• Aftercare: Mulch around the base (keeping clear of the stem). Water regularly during the first growing season until established; thereafter drought-tolerant. Minimal pruning needed (remove dead or crossing stems in late winter if desired).

Suitable for borders, informal hedges or as a specimen.
