Growing Serbian Spruce (Picea omorika)
  • Elegant, narrow pyramidal form with graceful drooping branches and two-toned needles (dark green above, silvery-white below), making it a highly ornamental specimen tree.
  • Ideal for smaller gardens or limited spaces due to its slender habit.
  • Highly adaptable: tolerates a wide range of soils (including alkaline/chalky, unlike many spruces), urban pollution, and cold UK conditions.
  • Low maintenance, requiring no pruning, with good frost tolerance and moderate drought resistance once established.
Planting Guide
  • Site selection: Full sun preferred; tolerates partial shade.
  • Soil: Moist but well-drained; thrives in loam, clay, sand, or chalky soils. Avoid waterlogged or very poor/nutrient-deficient sites.
  • Planting time: From late autumn to early spring.
  • Spacing: Allow ample room for root development; suitable as a standalone specimen or in groups.
  • Care: Water regularly during establishment (first 2-3 years); mulch to retain moisture. Minimal feeding or pruning needed.
  • Hardiness: Fully hardy across the UK , suitable for most regions with adequate rainfall (>650mm annually).
